Teenager bags N50,000 bail for property theft

 

A teenager, Chinemerem Nwankwo, who allegedly broke into an apartment and stole property and cash valued at N175,000, was on Wednesday in Lagos granted a N50,000 bail.

A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, directed the accused to provide a surety in like sum, who must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

The 19-year old accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Benson Emuerhi, the accused and others now at large committed the offences at No. 6, Ehi St., Ijeshatedo, Surulere, Lagos, at about 3.00 a.m on Aug.18.

He alleged that the accused and others still at large burgled the apartment of the complainant, Mrs Tunrayo Ahmed.

Emuerhi told he court that the complainant saw the accused coming out of her apartment with his accomplices.

“But when she raised an alarm they ran away with the following items — 1 infinix Hot4 phone valued at N52,000, one Samsung Galaxy phone valued at N48,000,one blackberry Q10 phone valued at N72,000 and N3,000, all valued at N175,000.’’

The offences contravened Sections 285, 305 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.‎

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.A. Famobiwo, adjourned the case to Nov.8 for trial.
