Channeldrill Resources Limited, in conjunction with the Elegushi family of Lagos, has unveiled the plan for a new development to be known as the Imperial International Business City.

The new city will be built on 200 hectares of reclaimed land from the Lagos lagoon, stretching from Lekki Phase 1 to the NICON Town.

The Managing Director, Channeldrill, Mr. Femi Akioye, said the city was a vision of his company and the Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Elegushi.

“This vision is majorly about building a city for the future. There are two things that will define the future of modern cities in the world, smart and green, and there is no better place to start this campaign in Africa than in Nigeria,” he said.

Akioye added that as a form of a special Corporate Social Responsibility, the promoters of the city were giving people the opportunity to be part of the development through the Imperial City Promo.

“This is a chance for an average Lagosian and Nigerian to win a plot of land in a city that will become the most expensive in Africa in a few years, for just N500,” he said.

According to Akioye, the promo is borne out of the vision to make the city an all-inclusive project where average Nigerians can aspire to and obtain a piece of land for the future.

“We want those on the minimum wage, the working class men and women, civil servants, teachers and all other citizens who have been putting in their fair share into the commonwealth of this country to be part of the future we talk about,” he explained.

Akioye said the promo had been approved by the Lagos State Lotteries Board, while Quickteller, Winners Golden Bet, Golden Chance Lotto and GuarantyTrust Bank would be partners with Interswitch as ticket vetting agents.

He said the promo would produce seven winners over a seven-week period, in addition to other consolation prizes worth over N300m.

According to him, the construction of the city will take about five to six years, with the reclamation of the land taking two years and provision of infrastructure taking about three years.

The Group Chief Executive Officer, Kedari Capital Limited, Mrs. Ife Fashola, said the city would be built right to correct some of the mistakes made in estates along the Lekki corridor.

Akioye said the consultants and contractors for the dredging, engineering and planning were all world-class companies from Europe.

The Lagos State Government in conjunction with an urban and regional planning firm, Vistaplan Consulting, has commenced the process of turning Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area into a model city.

The city plan project, awarded to Vistaplan in 2013 and revalidated in 2016, is expected to be prepared in nine months with duration of 20 years, starting from 2017 to 2036, and a review every five years.

The Director of Vistaplan Consulting, Dr. AbubakarOlaseni, at a stakeholders’ forum in Isolo, said the scope of the plan would include traffic and transportation, infrastructure, housing, environment and regeneration.

“The purpose of this is to develop strategies that will transform Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area into a model city of choice where people can live, work, prosper, play and enjoy a safe and decent life. It will also change people’s perception of the area from negative to positive,” he said.

Olaseni said the area had been challenged by land holding, flight path, power line, dumpsites, pollution and encroachment on the right of way.

Stakeholders’ forums were held in Ejigbo, Isolo and Oshodi LCDAs of the local government to sensitise residents to the development.

Olaseni asked for cooperation from all stakeholders, from the beginning to the end of the project.

At the Isolo forum, the Administrator of Isolo LCDA, AbimbolaOsikoya, said the model city plan was in line with the state government’s development programmes.

Oshikoya, who was represented by the Council’s Head of Administration, Mrs. OlufunkeLonge, said the involvement of the LCDAs was to bring the development closer to the grass roots.

“This administration is working tirelessly to make Lagos State a model city and this informed the decision of the LCDA, being the closest government to the people, to work towards the goal,” she said.

Eko Atlantic City, a unique development on the coast of Lagos, has reached advanced stages with the delivery of an eight-lane arterial road that is over 1,500 metres long, according to the developers, South Energyx Nigeria Limited.

The city, which is divided into eight districts, is planned for mixed-use with commercial, residential, entertainment and leisure activities to make it a 24/7 lively environment.

City amenities and services, according to the developers, will include an international school, plant nurseries hospital, and a state-of the art shopping mall.

The developers said in a statement, “The eight-lane boulevard’s road design and construction has been built to world’s best practices with beautifully paved sidewalks, tree-lined and streetlights completed with a stunning ocean view. One of the considerations when developing the Eko Atlantic City was to guarantee a traffic-free zone.

“This has now been achieved with the major road network recently completed. The extensive road network is now clearly defined with an area in excess of 200,000 square metres. Most significantly, the Eko Boulevard, the focal point of the business district, is fully completed from Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island to the ocean front sea wall.

“We are extremely proud to have achieved another major milestone in the development of Eko Atlantic City. This futuristic city is not just for residential and commercial activities, but a tourist attraction. We strongly believe that the new boulevard will enhance business activities, facilitate intercity transportation as well as attract tourists from all over Africa.”

The city’s infrastructure network makes it the most technically advanced city in Nigeria and Africa; it comes with a fully integrated autonomous and reliable infrastructure networks with extensive paved sidewalks, storm water drains, sewer drains, water supply piping, power cables and IT network, according to the statement.

The city also offers 15 connecting bridges, employing a post-tensioning system for their deck reinforcement, with 14 of the bridges already completed.

The development project is the brainchild of the Chagoury Group. In 2006, South Energyx Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of the group, was awarded the concession to reclaim the Bar Beach land, develop infrastructure and act as the exclusive authority over the development of Eko Atlantic City, next to Victoria Island in Lagos.

The developer of the N5bn Green City Estate, Calabar says a platform has been opened for investors to be part of the project in a bid to upgrade it to acceptable global green city standard.

The Project Supervisor, Green City Estate, Mr. Felix Adeduro, said the investment in plural development of the city would generate employment as well as returns on investment.

The Green City Estate is a luxury development expected to have 406 buildings of four-bedroomed duplexes, three-bedroomed apartments and two-bedroomed units, with modern infrastructure estimated to cost N400m.

Adeduro said, “Calabar, the metropolitan host of the city, is one of the fastest emerging cities in the world. Key landmark facilities and tourist destinations in the host state include the Tinapa Business and Tourist Resort, the globally acclaimed Obudu Cattle Ranch, the first and only cable car facility in Nigeria, the Kwa Falls, the Agbokim Waterfalls and Reserves, Margaret Ekpo International Airport and the Mary Slessor Square, among others.

“More importantly, Calabar is projected to witness huge inflow of skilled people resulting from the change mantra of Nigeria’s new government. The bombardment of investments expected with the new administration in the state has opened up the metropolis’ development, attracting huge investments in infrastructure, tourism, hospitality, aviation, ports and sea transportation, tertiary education, oil and gas, and health facilities.”

He said Calabar had become a global investors’ destination, while the Green City Estate offered investors in real estate, commercial stores, events and entertainment centres, hospitality, staff housing scheme, student hostels and independent rental homes opportunities to reap financial returns from minimum investments.

“On completion, the Green City will be providing about 500 employment opportunities to skilled job seekers and over 1,000 openings for unskilled workers. Investors are now being listed for participation in the provision of various facilities as well as development of future houses in the city,” he said.
